russian fur hats&bridal veils plus new room inspiration

Good day today. Went to the graveyard by my friends house for a photoshoot with our sisters for Photo class. Made them wear jeweled Free People dresses, Russian fur hats, bridal veils, carry around porclein dolls, etcetera. Then a police car came by and we ran away, feeling kind of out of place. But I don't think its bad to take photos in a graveyard, its peaceful and calming. I'll scan the pictures after I develop them.

I'm sorry for my abrupt last post and thanks for all your sweet comments. I was considering deleting Snazzy! but I'm not. My perfectionist urge for everything to be the same theme and fit together gets in the way sometimes. When I started using this typewriter font I went back to all my old posts and changed them.

Although I love fashion I think this blog is going to be a lot more concentrated on photography. Some people get into photography because of fashion, I'm into fashion because of photography. I just didnt know a blog could be about photography when I started this. You'll still get to see outfits though because I think its so fun to dress myself as well as my friends up.

One of my dad's friends in Spain sent me a copy of this spanish teen magazine and I found myself featured in their article Chic Connection. I'm not really from Canada as the feature claims but thanks Ragazza!

I think it says something like:

My mum just got back from Holland with tartan tights for me, a huge flower hairclip, speculaas, a plastic figurine of Zwart Piet, pumpkin and gourd shaped chocolates. She also shared hazy pictures of the furniture she has purchased as well as an exciting shot of the Just Sold sign. I can't wait to see our new house (we sold our cottage and have purchased a new one.) If anyone has any good interior design inspiration sites please share!

Halloween is such a great holiday! Strangers just giving you candy. I think thats nice that people still have a bit of trust. At school we did our annual parade. Us freshman dressed as ninjas and lurked around all day, and fough with plastic swords. Then after school my friends and I walked down to a cafe and encountered some odd boys. When night fell we started trick or treating, and got asked to be photographed by a German, ate lots of candy and encountered our hilarious bio teacher.

It snowed today. Snow and rain make me feel free. Like the sky is releasing any tension and just pouring it all out. During study hall I took pictures with my friends in the brick and ivy atrium, and sipped apple cider. But as soon as I got back into class with teachers reminding us to look at the board, not the snow I returned to the dull reality of work. It just goes on an on in a circle and I can't rest. I feel like I'm wasting my time.

By the way if you haven't seen Frida with Salma Hayek you should. It's so passionate. The paintings melt into the movie scenes and I wish life could be like that. With everyone stopping for a moment to glance around at each other and marvel or cry.

The drawings I do every year in math class are probably the reason I always end up with a C. But I just can't pay attention to sensible math talk.

I really really truly wish I could open my own school. It would be held in a perfectly disassembling old mansion and all the desks would be these gaudy old things from thrift stores and have little lamps on them. We would wander around outside reading Elizabeth Bishop, Sylvia Plath, Sara Teasdale, Robert Frost and loads of short stories. Some rich old woman would donate millions of dollars so we could get a school jet and then we would travel to India and Italy and Iceland and interview the people and learn about their culture.

And yes, I do think about this a lot.

I took the crazy bumpy bus to my friend's house. We talked. We ate Pringles. We played with the dogs. But then we reverted to dressing up and taking pictures. My best friend's house is a patchwork of memories for me. The carriage house where we made a museum when we were nine. The pond where we made fun of the boys next store. The lawn where her dad shot off fireworks. This time we were creepy ghosts coming back to childhood.

I adore Halloween creepiness and cold melancholy. Autumn and Winter are the most hostile and perfect times of the year.

This photo is one I took of my friend at her farm. I took a bunch others with my film camera for phography class but I haven't developed them yet seeing as how I spent a whole class trying to get the film on a reel. Why is it that I am so incompetent at something I love?

For Halloween my friends and I are thinking of doing a circus theme. I'm thinking top hats and frills, glitter, striped tights and such. We are so not too old to go tricker treating!

Went to the Veluwe with Bail (Hedera Helix). From far away the land looks barren but up close everything is intensely detailed. The grass pops when you walk, delicate webs line fox holes, the sand is oddly intricate. Everything peels and is worn away and there is a whole range of beautiful colours..maroons and mustards and strange tints and a gray sky.

Theres something very broken and falling apart about where we visited. History lulls in the ocean. Polaroids are just as fleeting, the perfect way to capture all the sights.Polaroids with the random UFO's and strange pink tints that sometimes appear as they develop.

And the land seems to have an odd rosy tint to it.

I got these granny printed Doc Martens a month-ish ago and I absuloutly love them.They seemed perfect to wear with a girly outfit on a visit to a local farm to get some cold apple cider and flowers. 8th Grade Graduation!

Every year the 8th grade moving up ceremony concluds with the students whisper singing an Irish Blessing and then the school Alma Mater. They usually take stage on the lawn in front of the old brick school building. Unfortunately this year it rained and we moved into the ice rink which was decorated with school colors and shrubs.

Boys had to wear navy blazers,khakis and dress shoes while girls were instructed to wear white dresses.

I picked out a flowy white Joie dress from Bloomingdales. It may not have been the sparkliest or most glamorous but the moment I saw it I knew it would be one of those perfect dresses that can work at parties but also dancing in the rain.

I just came across these photos taken in March. I was at my best friends 1700's farmhouse. We took a "stream walk" in the chilly water with her dog bouncing behind us. I drew in my little notebook and she played the piano, singing the newest song that she wrote called Fire. We make a good pair I guess. We're both dreamers, me with my poems and photos and her with her crystalline voice. Polar opposites too, she likes to lie about and sleep in and never takes control while I wake up early and can be anxious about the day's events.

For those of you who have been asking I use a Kodak Easy Share z712 and HP Photosmart Premiere to turn my photos b+w, antique,seppia, and add a posterized effect. My camera and editing software isn't super fancy as I honestly don't know that much about the technical aspects of photography. Next year I will be able to chose my art elective and I plan on doing a Photography Intro class where we will use Photoshop!

I had this urge to just dress up and take photos of myself among my favourite herb, anise, and by my old hideout in a bush.
It was quite fun actually and I made do with self timer as always. I wish I had a photographer robot.

As alluded to before I do indeed have a typewriter. I was fascinated with them when I was little and for Christmas I asked Santa for one and recieved this antique Smith Corona. To this day I still love the obnoxious click clack sound they make, the bitter ink smell and the homey quality of them.

what is one streotype about modeling that annoys you? That all models are vain and superficial.

what is your opinion on the whole too skinny model
issue? I think that it should be the right of the designer to decide on the type of models they use. Girls should understand that being tall and skinny is not the only definition of beautiful; it's not the fashion industry's fault if parents fail to instill a sense of worth in their children other than through the way they look.

what's your favourite and least favourite thing about modeling? My favorite thing is just being at shoots and seeing how they can transform something plain like a studio or a set into something beautiful with the camera. I feel like I'm a part of a piece of art. I love meeting all of the creative and talented people in the industry and feeling like I have something to contribute. And of course, I love fashion and clothes, and it's always fun to try on strange outfits and wear crazy makeup.

My least favorite thing is how shoots can sometimes last much longer than planned, or when I just can't grasp the feel of the shoot. The makeup might look wrong to me or the clothes might look bad but there's not much I can do about it! It's hard to give it my all if I'm not feeling it or there isn't any chemistry between the photographers, stylists and I. But thankfully, most of my modeling experience thus far has been really positive.

How did you become a model? I was scouted by Storm when I was doing cartwheels on the beach (haha) at 13, but my mum said i was too young. then a year or so later (after much begging!) we sent my photos and i was signed.

I remember a while ago you mentioned a band (tenatively called the Differents with Xenomania Records). How is that going? Well remembered! it's going really well thanks, currently we are recording an album and working with a fantastic team.

What was your favorite shoot to do? I can't decide! well it's not really a shoot, but my favourite was the catwalk for majirel (by l'oreal). i also CANNOT WAIT for the Anna Sui shoot!

Do you have good friends in the industry? I've met some of my best friends during work! you meet people from completely different areas and even cultures, and it's just really fun to mess about on a shoot with everyone =]
